What We Do

At Advocacy for Women with Disabilities Initiative (AWWDI), our commitment is to empower and uplift women and girls with disabilities across the nation. Through a range of strategic initiatives, we actively work towards dismantling barriers, fostering inclusion, and advocating for positive change. Here’s a glimpse into what we do:

Formation of Self-Help Groups (SHGs): Our grassroots approach involves establishing self-help groups in various communities. These groups provide a supportive platform for women with disabilities to connect, share experiences, and collectively address challenges.

Advocacy: We tirelessly advocate for policies, programs, and systems that promote the rights and well-being of women and girls with disabilities. Our aim is to create a more inclusive and equitable society where every voice is heard.

Campaigns and Workshops: Through sensitization campaigns, workshops, and training sessions, we empower women with disabilities to understand their rights, make informed choices, and navigate the challenges they face.

Networking and Alliances: Collaboration is key. We forge partnerships with organizations (donors), government agencies, MDA’s, OPD’s, CSO’s, and individuals who share our vision. By working together, we amplify our impact and create a more powerful force for change.

Capacity Development: We believe in building strong foundations. Through targeted capacity development programs, we equip women and girls with disabilities with the skills and knowledge they need to lead independent and empowered lives.

Awareness Creation: We shine a light on the challenges faced by women with disabilities, raising awareness among communities and stakeholders. By fostering understanding, we drive positive change and create an environment of empathy and support.

Research and Information Sharing: Knowledge is power. We conduct research to better understand the needs and experiences of women and girls with disabilities. By sharing information and insights, we contribute to evidence-based decision-making.

Empowerment and Income Generation: We focus on creating sustainable avenues for economic empowerment, including vocational training and microfinance initiatives tailored to the abilities of women and girls with disabilities.

Vocational Training Skills: We offer specialized vocational training programs, providing valuable skills that empower women with disabilities to pursue independent livelihoods.

Building Microfinance in Partnership with Financial Institutions: We collaborate with financial institutions to establish microfinance opportunities, facilitating financial independence and entrepreneurship among women and girls with disabilities.

Building Corporativeness among the Members: We foster a sense of community and cooperation among our members, creating a supportive network where women with disabilities can share insights and uplift one another.

Mentoring and Counseling: Our mentoring and counseling initiatives provide emotional support and guidance to women and girls with disabilities, helping them navigate challenges and build resilience.

Encourage Inclusive Education: We actively promote inclusive education, advocating for equal access and opportunities for women and girls with disabilities in educational institutions.

Distribution of Materials: We distribute essential materials and resources to support the diverse needs of women and girls with disabilities.

Monitoring and Evaluation: We engage in continuous monitoring and evaluation to assess the impact of our programs, ensuring they effectively contribute to the empowerment and well-being of women and girls with disabilities.

Through these comprehensive activities, AWWDI strives to break barriers, foster inclusion, and empower women and girls with disabilities to lead fulfilling lives. Join us in this transformative journey of empowerment, advocacy, and positive change.
