On the 15th of August 2024, Mrs. Patience Ogolo-Dickson, the visionary leader and Executive Director of the Advocacy for Women with Disabilities Initiative (AWWDI), chose to celebrate her birthday in a truly remarkable way. Instead of focusing on personal festivities, she transformed her special day into an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of others. Moved by her unwavering commitment to the well-being of women and girls with disabilities, she reached out to her friends—not with a request for gifts, but with a humble plea to support her Community Outreach Campaign, aptly named “Touching Lives.”
The response was overwhelming and heartfelt. Thanks to the generosity of those who rallied around her cause, on the 28th of September 2024, the Bwari Area Council in Abuja became the site of a heartwarming celebration. But this wasn’t a celebration for Mrs. Patience alone; it was a moment of joy and relief for the women and girls with disabilities who gathered to receive much-needed food supplies. These women, many of whom have been deeply affected by Nigeria’s current economic hardships, felt a renewed sense of hope and solidarity. Through Mrs. Patience’s selfless act, they were reminded that they are seen, valued, and supported.
For Mrs. Patience, a woman with a physical disability herself, this outreach was more than an act of charity—it was a realization of her purpose. Fully understanding the unique challenges these women face, she offered not only tangible assistance but also the priceless gift of hope and connection. In times like these, when many are struggling, her efforts were a beacon of light for women who often feel left behind.
At AWWDI, we are deeply proud to celebrate Mrs. Patience’s extraordinary dedication to this marginalized community. Her work continues to inspire all of us, showing that true fulfillment comes from uplifting others. Her leadership is a reminder that together, we can make a lasting impact in the lives of women and girls with disabilities.
