In a significant step towards advancing the sexual and reproductive health rights (SRHR) of women with disabilities, Advocacy for Women With Disabilities Initiative (AWWDI) has appointed Dr. Filani Oyebaji, the Commissioner of Health for Ekiti State, as an ambassador for this vital cause.
AWWDI, a dedicated organization championing the rights and well-being of women and girls with disabilities, is at the forefront of efforts to promote inclusive SRHR for these communities. The appointment of Dr. Oyebaji as an ambassador is a strategic move to ensure that the specific needs and rights of women with disabilities are recognized and addressed in the realm of sexual and reproductive health.
AWWDI’s National Coordinator, Princess Bilikisu Yakubu, and Program Manager, Mr. Kolawale Jayeoba, led a delegation to Ekiti State, where they engaged with key stakeholders to advocate for inclusive SRHR for women with disabilities. The visit aimed to garner support for AWWDI’s ongoing project, which is conducted in collaboration with WeLead and Hivos.
Accompanying Dr. Filani Oyebaji were the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health and several other staff members. During this fruitful engagement, AWWDI’s team emphasized the importance of recognizing and addressing the unique SRHR challenges faced by women with disabilities.
Dr. Oyebaji, the honorable Commissioner, expressed her commitment to supporting the project and pledged the full backing of the Ministry of Health in Ekiti State. This collaborative effort is a significant stride towards achieving AWWDI’s goals and promoting the sexual and reproductive health rights of women with disabilities in the region.
